Are you married to a man who has children from a previous marriage?
Has your ex-husband remarried, providing your children with a stepmother?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, you are a "stepwife" - a word developed to describe the relationship between a stepmom and an ex-wife. If you are interested in improving that relationship and learning to get along by putting your children first, the CoMamas Program is for you!

What "Stepwives" Struggle With

Statistics show that 1,300 stepfamilies form every day. That means children, wives, ex-wives and ex-husbands must all learn to get along - not always an easy task. Life in a stepfamily can be a challenge, but the interaction between "stepwives" can be a disaster. So often they struggle with questions such as:

  • What do I do when my "stepwife" doesn’t acknowledge me?
  • How do I begin to communicate with her?
  • What can I do about our different parenting styles?
  • Is there a way to get her to stop badmouthing me?
  • How can I make her understand what her role is?
  • How can we work together instead of competitively?

Individual Sessions And Group Workshops For "Stepwives"

Dr. Irene Schatz, our certified family mediator and Debra Baer, lead individual sessions and group workshops for "stepwives" who want to learn what triggers resentments, the dangers of badmouthing, and how to counteract controlling behavior. The CoMamas Program is a unique program designed to teach ex-wives and stepmoms how to co-parent in a healthy and respectful way. Learn how to stop the animosity and let the kids have the childhood they deserve!

Six-week informational support groups are offered in our Aventura and Plantation offices. Individual sessions with mom and stepmom are also available.
